Now Nobunaga kept no council but his own and there was a great sense of unrest in the domain of the Demon King. No one knew what had become of Nouhime and Ranmaru, though everyone knew exactly who to blame for whatever had happened. Nobunaga was withdrawn and discontent, Mitsuhide was becoming more and more obsessed and unstable, and Katsuie, in his disgrace, had nothing left in his life but to stand silent vigil at the inner gate to the castle and await any other orders that might come.
When he heard a commotion outside the lower gate, the one that could only be opened at behest of the base commanders placed in the magic circles outside the castle, he didn't even raise his head. He had no responsibilities until the gate opened. Whatever was happening outside it wasn't his problem. He would just stand, still as ever, with his naginata in hand, until he was forced to move.
